The member representing Isoko Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rep. Jonathan Ukodhiko, on Saturday called on Christians in Nigeria, to actively participate in politics to help enthrone Godly leadership for national advancement.

Rep. Ukodhiko made the call while speaking at the 90th Synod of the Diocese of Oleh, Anglican Communion, held at St. Michael’s Anglican Church, Emevor in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The lawmaker stated that politics guided by Godly principles, righteous intentions, and a heart yielded to God, is a veritable tool for advancing God’s kingdom.

Asserting that God has always shown interest in leadership and governance, Rep. Ukodhiko said that “politics, therefore, is not outside God’s plan, it is one of the tools God uses to shape society.”

He urged Christians not to shy away from political involvement, remarking that “we are not just believers; we are also kingdom ambassadors on earth. The world is in desperate need of Godly leadership rooted in righteousness, justice, and truth.

“Politics affects policies in every aspect of life, education, justice, healthcare, poverty, morality, and more.

“Advancing the kingdom of God means bringing godly values into every sphere of influence, including governance.”

Rep. Ukodhiko emphasised that praying for leaders, supporting God-fearing candidates, backing individuals with integrity and humility, promoting political awareness, voting with discernment, engaging with government policies, and even running for office are all practical ways Christians can advance God’s kingdom through politics.

He further called on churches in Nigeria to be involved in raising presidents, legislators, governors, and judges who are filled with the spirit of God, like Joshua and Stephen.

Rep. Ukodhiko admonished Christians not to be passive, stating that “let us remember that advancing God’s Kingdom is not just a Sunday affair. It is also in boardrooms, classrooms, courtrooms and yes, in political chambers.

“As ambassadors of Christ, we are called to represent the values of heaven here on earth. Let us take our rightful place, and through godly leadership, let righteousness exalt our nation.”

The Synod, chaired by former Secretary to the Delta State Government, Chief Ovuozourie Macaulay, also had in attendance the member representing Ughelli North/South and Udu Federal Constituency, Rep. Francis Waive.

Others present included the Chairman of Isoko North Local Government Area, Elder Godwin Ogorugba; his Isoko South counterpart, Ovoke Warri; and the Chairman of the Delta State Hospital Management Board, Dr. Paul Oweh.
