House of Representatives member representing Dikwa, Mafa, and Konduga Federal Constituency, Rep. Ibrahim Abuna, has sympathised with victims of the devastating fire that broke out at the Wanori Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
In a statement released through his media aide, Rep. Abuna described the incident as a tragic and painful blow to a community already grappling with the challenges of displacement.
The fire, which erupted earlier today, reportedly destroyed property worth millions of naira, displacing families and leaving many in distress.
He expressed concern over the extent of the damage, and the suffering faced by the affected families.
The House member acknowledged the ongoing hardship IDPs endure, and stressed that the fire has further deepened their vulnerability.
In calling for swift intervention, the lawmaker urged relevant government agencies and humanitarian organizations to provide immediate relief, including shelter, food, and medical aid.

Rep. Abuna emphasized that collective efforts from the government, non-governmental bodies, and well-meaning individuals are crucial in restoring hope and stability to the affected community.
In addition to his call for relief, Rep. Abuna advocated for improved fire safety measures and emergency preparedness in IDP camps.
He noted that raising awareness and strengthening response mechanisms will be key in preventing similar disasters in the future.
“It is truly heartbreaking to witness the loss of livelihoods and property in a community that has already suffered so much,” Rep. Abuna stated.
Sympathizing with all the victims, he urged every stakeholder from government agencies to compassionate individuals to rally around the victims and provide the necessary support to rebuild their lives.
He also called on the Borno State Government and emergency agencies to investigate the cause of the fire and implement measures to avoid reocurrence.
