First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has raised over N20 billion to complete the construction of the abandoned National Library project in Abuja.
The first lady revealed this while addressing State House correspondents at the Aso Villa on Tuesday.
The president’s wife said that the initiative was part of her 65th birthday celebration held on September 21, 2025.
She described the initiative as a cause that is close to her heart, dedicating her milestone birthday to God and the importance of education.
The donations are being managed by the Federal Ministry of Education under the ‘Oluremi at 65 Education Fund’.
Mrs. Tinubu stated that the completion of the National Library would be the best birthday gift she could receive.

She reflected on her time as a member of the Senate Committee on Education, stating that despite repeated efforts, the ministry had been unable to finalize the project, which was initially started under President Shehu Shagari.
The first lady emphasized the significant role libraries played in her development as a young person and expressed disappointment that the project has remained unfinished for decades.
In response to criticisms of her initiative, the first lady encouraged Nigerians to adopt a spirit of service to the nation, echoing the words of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy: “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
