Real Madrid have suffered a major blow ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg, as key midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is ruled out due to suspension. The French international received his third yellow card of the tournament during Madrid’s heated clash against Atletico Madrid, forcing him to miss the high-stakes encounter against Arsenal.

Tchouameni, who has been instrumental in Madrid’s midfield, was cautioned just before halftime after a challenge on fellow Frenchman Antoine Griezmann. Having previously been booked in matches against Brest and Atalanta, the accumulation of yellow cards triggered an automatic one-match ban under UEFA regulations.

This suspension couldn’t have come at a worse time for Carlo Ancelotti, who already had several players walking a disciplinary tightrope. Luka Modric, Antonio Rudiger, Eduardo Camavinga, and even highly-rated summer signing Endrick were all one booking away from missing a crucial game. To make matters worse, Ancelotti himself was under scrutiny for potential disciplinary action.

With Tchouameni sidelined, Ancelotti faces a tough decision in restructuring his midfield against an in-form Arsenal side. The Gunners have been ruthless in attack, netting nine goals over two legs in their previous round against PSV. Losing Tchouameni’s defensive presence in midfield could leave Madrid vulnerable, especially against Arsenal’s high-pressing style.

His absence forces Ancelotti to consider alternatives, with Camavinga and Modric likely candidates to fill the void. However, with Modric’s age and Camavinga’s attacking tendencies, Madrid could struggle to maintain defensive solidity in the middle of the park.

Meanwhile, amid the Champions League drama, Real Madrid have set their sights on strengthening their squad for the future. Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold has emerged as a top transfer target, with reports indicating that Madrid are highly confident in securing the right-back’s signature.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, internal discussions have already taken place regarding the English star’s salary and contract details. With Dani Carvajal nearing the twilight of his career, Madrid see Alexander-Arnold as the perfect successor to reinforce the right flank.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, Madrid are positioning themselves to land the 25-year-old on a free transfer. However, the decision ultimately lies with Alexander-Arnold, who must weigh the prospect of leaving Liverpool for a fresh challenge in La Liga.

As Real Madrid prepare for a defining clash against Arsenal, Ancelotti must find a way to cope without Tchouameni while keeping his squad focused amid ongoing transfer speculations. Every tactical decision will be crucial as Madrid push for another European crown.

Will Ancelotti’s men overcome the setback, or will Arsenal capitalize on their midfield weakness? One thing is certain—this Champions League showdown is set to be a thrilling battle.

Senator Ibrahim Lamido dumps APC, blames insecurity, economic hardship By Paul Joseph A serving senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, citing worsening insecurity and economic hardship in his constituency. The lawmaker announced his decision on his official X platform, stating that his resignation takes immediate effect. He explained that the move followed what he described as the party’s inability to adequately protect lives and support livelihoods across Sokoto East. Lamido raised serious concerns over the surge in bandit attacks in the region, noting that several communities have been overrun, with villages destroyed, residents displaced, and local economies severely disrupted. He said repeated appeals for urgent government intervention had failed to produce meaningful results. The senator stressed that his decision was not driven by political ambition but by the need to stand with his constituents during a period of deep crisis. He added that consultations with community leaders and political associates shaped his final decision to exit the ruling party. While he did not immediately announce his next political destination, Lamido hinted that he would align with a platform that prioritises security, grassroots development, and the welfare of citizens. He also called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts against banditry, warning that continued inaction could worsen the humanitarian situation across northern Nigeria. The development adds to growing political shifts ahead of the 2027 general elections, as security concerns and economic pressures continue to influence alignments within Nigeria’s political landscape.
