Billionaire Femi Otedola has shared a festive picture from his home in Dubai, featuring himself with Seyi Tinubu, the eldest son of President Bola Tinubu, whom he described as his mentee.
The post read, “It was a pleasure to host my mentee at my Dubai residence last night,” and received thousands of likes along with a variety of reactions.
This marks the first public acknowledgment of their relationship, highlighting the ties between Nigeria’s business and political elites.
Otedola, recognized for his investments in the energy sector and philanthropic efforts, owns luxury properties in Dubai since purchasing two mansions last year for his daughter’s wedding.
These included praise for mentorship that transcends family connections, comments on elite networks, political observations amid governance challenges, and skepticism about the photo’s authenticity, even though there was no evidence of manipulation.
While some congratulated Seyi, others criticized the mentorship dynamic among the elites.

@The_Great_Jiri noted, “Genuine mentorship that offers real access and relationships is truly valuable. Congratulations to Seyi for having someone invested in his development. These moments hold more significance than many realize.”
@Ugo_eze remarked, “Mentee, because your father’s unsuccessful government benefits your business.”
Meanwhile, @Jeremiahahmg expressed a desire for mentorship, writing, “As a young Nigerian who admires your journey—your success, discipline, timing, resilience, and quiet confidence—I see that you have mastered what many strive for but few understand: thinking long-term in a short-term world.
Nigeria is not lacking in ambition; we simply lack access to wisdom.
“I believe mentorship is one of the most impactful investments a leader can make, and I humbly request to learn from you—not about your wealth, but about your mindset, decision-making, and principles.”
