A socio-political group, People’s Frontier Initiative, led by Comrade David Akonuche, has strongly criticized former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, over her controversial remarks during a Senate Ethics and Privileges Committee hearing. The session, which centered on Senator Natasha Akpoti’s sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, took an unexpected turn when Ezekwesili allegedly confronted Deputy Chief Whip, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, in what the group described as a disrespectful and unbecoming manner.

Addressing journalists in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Akonuche condemned Ezekwesili’s conduct, stating that her outburst—where she reportedly told Senator Nwebonyi to “shut up”—was uncultured and unbefitting of an Igbo mother. He argued that regardless of political differences, a ranking senator deserves a level of respect, criticizing Ezekwesili’s actions as an extension of her alleged history of political activism aimed at undermining South-East politicians.

“We have always known Prof. Oby Ezekwesili as a respected woman, but her recent attack on Barr. Onyekachi Nwebonyi is a disgrace to womanhood. It exposes a parochial feminist agenda, rather than genuine advocacy,” Akonuche stated.

He further accused Ezekwesili of being a political tool for opposition forces, drawing parallels between her involvement in the #BringBackOurGirls campaign—which he claimed was politically motivated—and her current stance on Senator Akpoti’s allegations against Akpabio.

“Ezekwesili was at the forefront of the Chibok Girls campaign, which was weaponized against former President Goodluck Jonathan. Now, she is playing into another political charade, seeking media attention at the expense of respected politicians from the South.”

Akonuche demanded that Ezekwesili publicly apologize to Senator Nwebonyi and withdraw from the ongoing controversy surrounding Akpoti’s allegations. He warned that her continued involvement could escalate tensions and further damage her credibility.

“We strongly advise Ezekwesili to step away from Natasha Akpoti’s sexual harassment claims and resist the urge to turn this issue into another media circus. There’s more to this story than her usual activism,” he concluded.
