The Police Service Commission (PSC) has met with representatives from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to refine plans for a more transparent and credible police recruitment process in 2025.
This information was shared in a statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani, Head of Press and Public Relations on Thursday.
The statement also indicated that the commission will be recruiting cadet assistant superintendents of police and constables.
The stakeholders consultative meeting with the theme: “Collaborative approach for a transparent and equitable police recruitment process,” took place at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, the commission’s Chairman, Hashimu Argungu, emphasized to the state representatives the commission’s commitment to collaborating with state governments to ensure a fair and transparent recruitment process.
He urged them to safeguard their quotas and prevent any interference in the recruitment activities within their states.
Argungu highlighted the commission’s resolve to eliminate collusion and the trading of recruitment slots, stating that special considerations would not override merit and fairness.
“Our goal is to eradicate corruption in the system and foster healthy competition and equitable distribution,” he said.
He expressed the commission’s desire for a constructive partnership with state governments to combat corruption in the recruitment process.
Justice Paul Galumje, a retired Supreme Court justice and commissioner representing the judiciary, affirmed that the commission was established to ensure fairness and equity in police recruitment and operations, and that no one would be allowed to manipulate the upcoming recruitment.

“We will rely on you to verify that the recruits come from your states,” he said.
DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), a commissioner representing the police in the commission, stated that the new management is dedicated to reforming the recruitment process to attract the best Nigerian youth for the police force.
He expressed gratitude to the president for approving the recruitment initiative and assured that this unique opportunity would be valued.
Secretary to the commission, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, discussed the commission’s commitment to establishing state offices to effectively fulfill its constitutional responsibilities and appealed for support from state governments.
The meeting concluded with an agreement on the importance of regular stakeholder consultations, with state representatives pledging their cooperation and support.
