A major protest broke out on Monday at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, as supporters of a faction loyal to the PDP National Vice Chairman (North Central), Mohammed Abdulrahman, stormed the complex demanding the immediate exit of the party’s current leadership.
The demonstrators, chanting solidarity songs, called on the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, to vacate the headquarters without delay. The protest followed days of rising tension within the opposition party as rival camps continued to battle for control.
Abdulrahman was named Acting National Chairman last week after the suspension of the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and the National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, for one month. The move deepened the internal crisis threatening the PDP’s unity.

In a swift counteraction, loyalists of Anyanwu convened a parallel meeting in Abuja where they announced the suspension of the Damagum-led NWC, further intensifying the leadership feud.
The protesters accused Damagum’s team of mismanaging party affairs and vowed to reclaim control of the secretariat for the Abdulrahman-led faction. Security operatives were swiftly deployed to Wadata Plaza to prevent clashes as both groups maintained their claims to the PDP’s national leadership.
The unfolding crisis marks another chapter in the PDP’s prolonged internal struggle, raising concerns about its readiness to reposition ahead of future elections.
