Another protest has erupted in Ibadan just a day after one in Kaduna, with hundreds demanding the safeguarding of Dangote Refinery amid the face-off between the refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
Hundreds of students from the National Association of Oduduwa Students (NAOS), the Coalition of Yoruba Students, and the Yoruba Movement took to the streets in a peaceful demonstration to support the Dangote Refinery amid its ongoing conflict with major oil unions.
The protesters gathered early Tuesday at the Iwo Road Roundabout, marching through key areas while chanting solidarity slogans and holding signs that read, “Don’t Kill Dangote Refinery,” “#StopSabotage,” “#EndPENGASSAN,” and “#DangoteRefineryIsANationalAsset.”
Wearing shirts emblazoned with the message “Don’t Kill Dangote Refinery,” the students accused certain influential groups of undermining Nigeria’s largest industrial project, warning that any disruption could hinder the nation’s progress toward fuel independence.

During the rally, NAOS President, Olalere Adetunji called on President Bola Tinubu and relevant government agencies to take immediate action.
“We urge the federal government to safeguard this refinery from vested interests.
“Labour and marketers must not be allowed to obstruct Nigeria’s path to fuel self-sufficiency,” he said.
Security personnel, including police and officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), have been deployed to ensure order as the protest continues.
