Nigeria’s sports sector is undergoing a remarkable transformation, and according to Adamawa sports advocate and entrepreneur Henry Okobiemen, credit must go to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. He described their efforts as “historic milestones” that will be remembered as a turning point in Nigerian sports.
Okobiemen, who is also the CEO of Young Okobiz Ventures Ltd, pointed to Governor Fintiri’s investments in Adamawa’s sporting infrastructure, particularly the newly built sports complex in Numan. He said the facility has not only raised the standard of sports in the state but has also created opportunities for young athletes to thrive.
He further commended Fintiri’s unwavering support for women’s football, highlighting his backing of Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu, an Adamawa native. That endorsement, Okobiemen noted, played a key role in Nigeria’s impressive showing at the WAFCON tournament in Rabat, Morocco.
“Governor Fintiri’s commitment is not just local. His vision has positively influenced Nigeria’s image on the global sports stage,” Okobiemen said.

The sports advocate also lauded President Tinubu for his collaborative approach with state governors to strengthen the nation’s sporting community. He pointed to recent incentives, including cash rewards and property gifts to female footballers and basketball players, as proof of Tinubu’s resolve to elevate athletes and inspire the younger generation.
However, Okobiemen also reflected on the plight of retired athletes, responding to comments by former Super Eagles defender Taribo West about the lack of pensions. He urged both federal and state governments to create a safety net for retired sports legends who once brought glory to the country. At the same time, he advised athletes to take personal responsibility by saving and investing wisely during their active years to secure their future.
According to Okobiemen, the combined efforts of Governor Fintiri and President Tinubu mark a new era for Nigerian sports; an era that promises growth, empowerment, and recognition for athletes at every level.
