The Presidency has dismissed recent social media reports claiming that former President Muhammadu Buhari is involved in an arbitration proceeding in Paris concerning the Nigerian Government. The reports have been labeled as baseless and fake news.
In a statement issued by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, the government clarified that the arbitration is a private legal matter and its proceedings are confidential. Onanuga expressed disappointment over the media coverage of the issue, emphasizing that such sensitive legal matters should not be subject to public speculation or misrepresentation.
Onanuga also categorically refuted claims that President Tinubu had coerced anyone into participating in or abstaining from testifying in the proceedings. He highlighted the patriotic efforts of Nigerians involved in defending the country’s interests, noting that their contributions are entirely voluntary and motivated by a deep sense of national duty.

“All the eminent Nigerians involved in Nigeria’s defense are doing so willingly and out of sheer patriotism and conviction,” the statement read. Onanuga added that President Tinubu and the nation are profoundly grateful to these individuals for their commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and interests on the global stage.
This clarification comes amidst growing concerns over the spread of misinformation on social media. The Presidency has urged Nigerians to rely on verified sources for accurate information and avoid fueling false narratives that could undermine the country’s legal and diplomatic efforts.
