The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), at the weekend, said the blackout at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos, was caused by wind storm that destroyed one of the feeders that supply power to the airport.

This followed after scores of passengers became stranded at the MMIA after power outage hit a section of the airport, which trended in an online video, just as The Trumpet learnt that the departure lounge of the International Airport was the most affected.

But in a swift reaction, Acting General Manager, Corporate Affairs of FAAN, Faithful Hope-Ivbaze, in a statement made available to journalists in Lagos, said normalcy had been restored in the affected area.

Hope-Ivbaze, who apologised to passengers over the incident, said: “FAAN wishes to apologise to passengers and other airport users, who experienced temporary power outage at the MMIA, Lagos about 23:15 hours on Saturday, April 2, 2022.

“The outage, which was caused by storm that preceded the midnight rain, affected one of our feeders and consequently resulted in temporary disruption of power supply at the D Wing of the airport.

“However, our engineers quickly discovered the fault and liaised with the Ejigbo duty and area control office of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IEDC) to resolve the problem. Normalcy has since been restored in the affected area.”
