OPERATORS of Point of Sale commonly known as Pos in Ughelli North Local Government Area, have lamented the alleged continued extortion by vigilante members in the metropolitan areas of Ughelli.
They called on the local government chairman to rescue them from the Vigilante members as they could no longer afford to pay revenue to the local government and pay another to the Vigilante.
Speaking to newsmen, Mr Ochuko Obuks said, “The Vigilante came with their navy blue Siena vehicle as asked for my receipt and I presented the one from the council.
“They rejected the one from the council before I could finish speaking, they took my table and umbrella with them, asking me to come and claim them at the kingdom Hall.
They told me that they were acting on the instructions from above and when I got there they issued a N5,000 receipt of Ughelli kingdom security management committee to me before I could claim my seized table and umbrella.

Also speaking, Miss Kevwe Akpobo said, “I entered into this PoS business after finishing my NYSC and there was no job and they have been troubling me with different levies.
“We are appealing to the local government council Chairman Olorogun Jaro Egbo to prevail on the vigilante to stop harassing us on a daily basis as we cannot be paying to the council and Vigilante at the same time.
“If anyone feels we are making profit in the business, they should join us to see what we are passing through,” she added.
All efforts to speak with the president general of Ughelli Descendants Union, Olorogun Sam Akpimegi was not successful as calls to his line were not answered or replied as at the time of filling the report.
