A popular actor, Fabian Adibe has passed away at the age of 82. He was well-known for his role in the popular television adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s classic novel, “Things Fall Apart.”
Adibe, who celebrated his 82nd birthday in February 2025, died peacefully in the early hours of Wednesday. His death was confirmed by Seun Oloketuyi, the CEO of Best of Nollywood, who shared the news on social media, stating, “Things Fall Apart’ actor, Fabian Adibe, is dead, he died at 2:30 am this morning.”
Adibe won the hearts of many for his memorable performance in “Things Fall Apart” and was admired for his calm presence and powerful acting, which connected with audiences over the years. He was also a television personality and played a significant role in Nigeria’s cultural scene, leading the country to its first Commonwealth Art Festival in 1965.
Adibe began his acting career in 1987 in the acclaimed series “Things Fall Apart,” where he played Ogbuefi Uzowulu alongside fellow actors Pete Edochie, Justus Esiri, and Sam Loco Efe, who have since passed away.

Born on December 1, 1943, Adibe was part of the earlier generation of actors that helped shape Nollywood, Nigeria’s film industry. Known for his charm and remarkable presence, he contributed to more than 300 movies, such as “Slave Warrior,” “White Kingdom 2,” and “Father’s.” He also appeared in international films, including “Soweto,” about the struggles in South Africa, and “Mr. Johnson,” a Hollywood production. He worked with the Nigerian Television Authority until he lost his job in 1984.
Fans and fellow actors have shared heartfelt tributes to Adibe on different online platforms, celebrating him as a “gentle soul.”
