The Kano State Police Command has rolled out a series of community-focused activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day, in a renewed effort to strengthen public trust and enhance collaboration in crime prevention.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing, saying the initiative aligns with this year’s theme: “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”
Bakori said the week-long programme, scheduled to commence on March 30, is aimed at fostering stronger ties between the police and the public.
According to him, the activities will begin with a sanitation exercise in Fagge Local Government Area, alongside community engagements and a medical outreach at Dakata, as part of efforts to promote public health and safety.
The commissioner of police further outlined other activities to include a walkathon across major parts of Kano metropolis, a live radio programme, and official visits to strategic institutions, including the Federal High Court, Kano.
He noted that the command would also engage students and staff of the North-West University, organise a novelty football match at the Sani Abacha Stadium, and convene a roundtable with civil society organisations and community leaders to deepen dialogue on security issues.

Bakori added that the command would extend its outreach to markets and motor parks across the state, stressing that similar activities would be replicated at divisional and area command levels.
He said the grand finale of the celebration would hold on April 7 at the Eagle Square, Abuja, where the inspector general of police is expected to lead dignitaries and stakeholders to commemorate the event.
The police commissioner, who appreciated the support of Kano residents, urged the public to actively participate in the programmes.
He emphasised that effective policing requires sustained collaboration with the community, noting that the command remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property across the state.
