The Lagos State Police Command has announced new security measures as the state prepares for the local government elections on Saturday, July 12, 2025.
The police warned that vehicles will not be allowed on the roads from 3:00 am to 3:00 pm on election day.
Spokesperson for the police in the state, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a statement, said the security measures were introduced to ensure the elections are safe and orderly in all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas.
He said that only vehicles providing essential services, like ambulances, fire trucks, and police vehicles related to the election, will be allowed to move around.
However, the police explained that there are a few exceptions to the movement restriction.

The exceptions will affect staff of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, election observers, and the media.
Additionally, the police have banned the use of armed escorts and private security personnel at voting locations.
“No politicians or public officials will be permitted to arrive with armed guards. The use of sirens and vehicles with hidden license plates near polling places is also not allowed.
“The police have made it clear that anyone who disobeys these rules or causes trouble during the elections will be arrested and face legal action,” the statement said.
The police further encouraged parents and guardians to caution their children to stay away from violence and to report suspicious activities.
