The Kano State Police Command has restored normalcy in Maraba Quarters of Kano metropolis following the killing of a worshipper at Yusuf Garko Mosque and the subsequent mob action that claimed the life of the suspected assailant.
The victim, identified as Ladan Zubairu, was reportedly killed inside the mosque on Monday.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect attempted to escape after the attack but was chased by a mob, lynched, and his residence set ablaze.
The police said operatives were promptly deployed to the scene to contain the situation and prevent a further breakdown of law and order, adding that calm has since been restored.
In a statement issued by the spokesperson of the command, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, investigators recovered body parts of the victim from the suspect’s pocket.
Both the victim and the suspect were confirmed dead and their remains deposited at the Mohammed Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Kano, where they are awaiting autopsy.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and the ensuing mob violence.

The command reiterated that while efforts are ongoing to ensure public safety, acts of jungle justice would not be condoned, warning that anyone found culpable in the incident would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
The police commissioner appealed to residents of the area to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies as investigations continue.
Members of the public were also urged to provide useful information that could aid the probe, with assurances that all information would be treated with strict confidentiality.
He also reaffirmed the commitment of the police to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
