Six children aged between seven and 13 years who were reportedly left alone in a residential building within an estate in the Ejigbo area of Lagos, have been rescued by the state government.
According to reports, the case was initially handled by the Ejigbo Police Station before being transferred to the gender unit in Ikeja on February 18, 2025, at about 12:00 pm.
Law enforcement officials received information that the children were staying in the house without adult supervision.
Following the rescue operation, the children have been placed in a protective shelter under the Ministry of Youth and Social Development.

Preliminary findings indicate that their mother is currently abroad for medical treatment and had left them in the care of a caregiver.
Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who made this know in a statement on Saturday, said authorities are making efforts to contact the mother, while investigations continue to gather more details about the circumstances surrounding the case.
The statement reads in part: “On 18/2 /2025 at about 1200hrs the case was transfered from Ejigbo Police Station to gender unit Ikeja, in which there was information received that six children were staying alone in a residential house, within an Estate in Ejigbo axis of Lagos.
“The children aged 7-13 years have been rescued and are currently in protective shelter through the Ministry of Youth and social development.
“Information so far revealed their mother is currently abroad for medical treatment and left them in care of a caregiver.
“Efforts are in top gear to reach out to their mother, and investigation is currently ongoing to get more facts about the matter.”
