The Kano State Police Command has made a major arrest of three suspects in possession of counterfeit currencies worth a staggering N129.5 billion. The fake money, which includes $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, and N1,443,000, was recovered during a sting operation, according to the command’s spokesperson, SP Haruna Kiyawa.
Speaking at an emergency press briefing on Tuesday, SP Kiyawa revealed that investigations are underway to uncover the masterminds behind the production of the counterfeit currencies. He emphasized that the command remains resolute in its efforts to combat financial crimes and safeguard Kano’s economic integrity.
In addition to this operation, the Kano Police Command has arrested 62 suspects linked to various crimes between November 25 and December 9, 2024. The suspects are connected to offenses ranging from armed robbery and kidnapping to cattle rustling and drug trafficking. Among them are eight armed robbery suspects, 10 alleged cattle rustlers, three suspected kidnappers, and six tricycle thieves.
