The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced the recovery of three stolen vehicles and the arrest of eight suspects, including a married couple allegedly involved in a vehicle theft syndicate operating across Abuja and other states.
A press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the arrests were the result of separate investigations led by operatives of the command’s Scorpion Squad and other divisions.
The first breakthrough came on April 19, 2025, when police arrested Yusuf Yunusa in connection with a stolen gold coloured Toyota Corolla (registration number ABC 570 FJ) taken from the Federal Secretariat, Central Business District, Abuja.
Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of his wife, Blessing Yusuf, in the Kwali Area Council on April 25.
She confessed to purchasing Toyota master keys from the Jumia online marketplace, which her husband used to carry out vehicle thefts.
Blessing also admitted to distracting victims whenever her husband attempted to steal a car.
Similarly, the police said in a separate case on April 28, 2025, a car buyer at the Life Camp District of Abuja, alerted authorities to a suspicious black Mercedes-Benz 4matic E-400 (registration number AAA 07 KA).
The police said investigations revealed the vehicle was stolen from Lekki in Lagos.
