The Bauchi State Police Command has raised concerns regarding the ‘Take it back movement’ protest holding today, which coincides with National Police Day, a day meant to honour the dedication of the Nigeria Police Force.
Police spokesperson in the state, Ahmed Wakil, in a statement, emphasised citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly but questioned the timing and motivations behind the protest.
The police described the protest as “potentially unpatriotic,” warning that it could damage the reputation of both the police and the nation.
The statement highlighted that the organisers of the protest had not formally notified any security agency or requested necessary security coverage, prompting the advice to postpone the protest.

Also, the police alluded to security concerns and the priority of ensuring public safety as reasons for its advice.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu has ordered heightened patrols in sensitive areas throughout the state.
While reaffirming their commitment to their lawful duties and respect for human rights, the police encouraged the protest organisers and participants to engage in dialogue with relevant government bodies to express their grievances.
