The Imo State Police Command has arrested three suspects, recovered arms, including one AK-47 rifle, and cash of N1.3 million after raiding a criminal hideout at Cameron Street, Ubahu in Okigwe Local Government Area.

A statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, hinted that the operation was carried out by operatives of the command’s tactical team in synergy with local vigilante groups, following intelligence reports.

Okoye stated that the hoodlums, on sighting the operatives, opened fire, resulting in a gun battle during which three suspects were arrested.

The arrested hoodlums were identified as Onyekaba Innocent, Ugwu Ikenna, and Ofor Kasarachi.

Two others reportedly escaped into the surrounding bushes during the gun fight.

Recovered from the scene were one AK-47 rifle, two pump-action guns, 18 live cartridges, mobile devices, laptops, and N10.3 million in cash.

Okoye alleged that investigations revealed that the money was contributed by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members to finance terrorism.

“With Easter approaching, the command assures Imo residents of robust security across the state. In collaboration with sister agencies, patrols, surveillance, and checkpoints have been intensified to ensure a safe and peaceful celebration,” he added.

The police spokesman advised residents to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via 08034773600.
