The Bayelsa State Police Command, on day three of the National Police Day 2026 celebration, organized a sensitization programme on electoral violence and road safety at the Ekeki Motor Park in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The initiative is aimed at promoting peaceful electoral participation, enhancing road safety awareness, and fostering responsible conduct among motorists and members of the public.
Repretatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), members of NURTW, PCRC, Tipper Driver’s Union, political parties, civil servants, student union bodies, and other stakeholders gathered at the Ekeki Motor Park, Yenagoa, for a sensitization and interactive session on electoral violence prevention and road safety.
The INEC representative, Mr. Alfred Akpojotor, delivered a lecture on electoral violence and other related offences, highlighting their dangers, legal implications, and the need for citizens to embrace peaceful participation in the electoral process.
The state Commissioner of Police, Iyamah Edebor, also delivered a lecture on road safety, educating participants on safe driving practices, adherence to traffic regulations, and the importance of responsible behaviour on the roads.
He further educated participants on the dangers of electoral violence, thuggery, and other unlawful acts, and were urged to remain law-abiding.

The commissioner of police encouraged the public to support the police with timely and actionable intelligence to aid ongoing efforts in combating crime and criminality in the state.
He further cautioned against reckless driving and urged all motorists to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations to safeguard lives and property.
There was also a question-and-answer session, with the leadership of the transport unions commending the command for the initiative, describing it as timely, and impactful.
Edebor reaffirmed the command’s commitment to the safety and well-being of residents of Bayelsa State, emphasizing that effective policing extends beyond crime prevention to include community engagement and public enlightenment.
The command appreciates all partners and assures the good people of Bayelsa State of its continued dedication to people-oriented policing.
