Operatives of the Delta State Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Squad on Friday, neutralised four kidnap suspects in a high-stakes operation in Issele-Uku, headquarters of Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State.
The suspects were believed to be responsible for the recent kidnapping of a medical doctor in the state.
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Edafe Bright, who disclosed the development in a message to journalists via his WhatsApp platform, stated that the operatives engaged the suspects during a covert operation that ended in a fierce gun battle.
The suspected criminals had allegedly abducted the doctor and collected a ransom of N15 million before releasing the victim.
Acting on credible intelligence, the commissioner of police’s special squad launched a manhunt for the suspects, that culminated in Thursday’s deadly confrontation.
“This success demonstrates our renewed commitment to ridding Delta State of criminal elements and making our communities safer,” SP Bright stated.
While the identities of the neutralised suspects remain undisclosed, the state police command assured the public that further investigations are underway.
The operation has been met with widespread praise, especially among residents of Issele-Uku and the larger Aniocha North Local Government Area, who have recently expressed concern over rising incidents of kidnapping and armed violence.
The police reiterated their call for cooperation from members of the public in providing timely and actionable information to support ongoing security efforts across the state.
