Police in Taraba State have arrested two suspects and recovered six locally fabricated firearms during a targeted security operation in Karim Lamido Local Government Area, following a spate of deadly communal clashes.
The arrests were confirmed in a press statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP James Leshen. He said the operation took place on Tuesday, May 14, 2025, around noon.
Led by CSP Ayuba Yohanna, the joint task force comprised personnel from the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, 40 PMF, and the Karim Lamido Division. The mission was launched in response to a series of violent incidents between farmers and herders that have plagued the area in recent weeks.
The police team stormed a Fulani settlement in Wuro Guga, near Jen town, which was believed to be a hideout for herders linked to attacks on Munga Dosso and Bandawa communities. These attacks, reportedly carried out in three separate assaults, left about ten people dead.
“Upon sighting the security operatives, the suspects fled into the surrounding forest,” the statement read. “A detailed search of the area led to the recovery of one locally made revolver pistol, one locally made revolver gun, four single-barrel guns, and nine live cartridges.”
In a separate incident, two additional suspects were apprehended while attempting to torch huts abandoned by Fulani residents displaced by the ongoing crisis.

Authorities said investigations are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects, while efforts are being intensified to restore lasting peace to the affected communities.
Commending the officers involved, Taraba State Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel S. Bretet, psc(+), praised their swift response and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to ensuring the safety of all residents and warned those instigating violence that the law will catch up with them.
“The Command remains resolute in maintaining peace and protecting lives and property,” CP Bretet stated. “Anyone found disrupting public order will face the full wrath of the law.”
