A 31-year-old man, Gali Yunana, has been arrested by operatives of the Taraba State Police Command for the unlawful possession of a firearm during a routine stop-and-search operation in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area.
The arrest was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, James Lashen, who confirmed that the operation took place on Saturday, September 27, at around 5:45 p.m. in the Munga Lelau area.
According to the statement, Yunana, a resident of Munga Doso Village, was intercepted by a team of mobile police officers from the 40 PMF Jalingo, led by ASP Bitrus Benson.
He was found in possession of a British Beretta pistol, with the breach number intentionally removed. Two live rounds of ammunition were also recovered at the scene.

Police said the suspect confessed during interrogation that the weapon had previously belonged to his late brother, identified as Odoji Yunana.
The case is currently under investigation.
Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, praised the officers for their swift and professional response, describing the arrest as part of the command’s intensified efforts to enhance public safety in the region.
“This arrest is a direct result of the command’s ongoing security review in Karim-Lamido. We will continue to intensify our efforts to ensure the safety and security of all residents,” she stated.
The police have encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
