The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has opened an investigation into the decomposing body discovered inside a vehicle at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
The deceased, identified by multiple sources as 55-year-old Gaddafi Iwar, was reportedly a labourer working at a construction site within the National Assembly premises before his death.
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who cited eyewitness accounts, the lifeless body was found in a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 7, 2025.
The car had allegedly been parked in the same spot for an extended period before the discovery.

Witnesses said the remains were first evacuated to the National Assembly Clinic for confirmation before being taken to the Asokoro General Hospital, where they were rejected due to the advanced decomposition of the corpse.
Eventually, members of the Tiv community and local youth leaders transported the body to Gbawu Village, a border community between AMAC and Kuje Area Council, for burial to prevent a public health hazard.
In a statement, the FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that officers from the National Assembly Police Division responded to a distress call and found the body inside the parked vehicle.
“The deceased was immediately evacuated to Asokoro General Hospital, where medical experts confirmed that the body was already in an advanced state of decomposition,” Adeh said.
She added that the commissioner of police has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to verify the circumstances surrounding the death.
“Further updates will be communicated as the investigation progresses,” she noted.
