The Delta State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement following the reported abduction of the Chairman of Sapele Local Government Area, Bright Abeke, by gunmen.
Abeke was reportedly kidnapped on Friday night at his hotel, Debroefed, located along Owumi Road in Sapele.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailants, who arrived in a Range Rover, opened fire on his security detail before whisking him away to an unknown destination.
According to the eyewitness, his Chief Security Officer, Ufuoma, was shot during the attack. However, as of press time, details regarding his condition remain unclear.
Efforts to get official confirmation or reaction from the police proved abortive.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Edafe Bright, neither answered calls nor responded to text messages sent to his phone as of Saturday morning.

The silence from authorities has heightened anxiety among residents, with many expressing concern over the deteriorating security situation in the area.
There have also been growing calls for security agencies to urgently seal off entry and exit points in Sapele to aid rescue efforts and apprehend the perpetrators.
As tension continues to mount, the whereabouts of the abducted council chairman remain unknown, while the police have yet to break their silence on the incident.
