The Kano State Police Command has intercepted a consignment of suspected intoxicants valued at N82.7 million, inside a suspicious vehicle parked at a residence in Rimin Auzinawa Quarters in Kano, the state capital.
Spokesperson of the command, Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement released on Saturday, noted that, the command received a credible information of the suspicious vehicle carrying cartons of the suspected intoxicants.
He said acting on the directive of the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, officers swiftly moved to the location, cordoned off the house, and arrested a 19-year-old suspect, Usman Umar.
According to him, a search of the premises led to the recovery of 603 packets of suspected tramadol tablets (60,300 pieces) valued at N60.3 million and 299 packets of suspected pregabalin capsules (44,850 pieces) valued at N22.4 million, putting a total street value of the seizure at N82.7 million.
“This successful operation highlights the command’s commitment to eradicating the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in Kano State.

“The suspect is currently helping investigation to uncover the network behind this illegal trade and bring all culprits to justice,” he stated.
Kiyawa quoted the state police commissioner as commending the residents for their vigilance, stressing that the success was achieved through timely information provided by members of the public.
He assured Kano residents of the command’s commitment to intensifying intelligence-led policing in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
“The fight against drug trafficking requires the collective effort of security agencies and the public. We urge residents to continue sharing credible information with the police, with the assurance of prompt action and confidentiality,” Bakori said.
