The Cross River State Police Command has warned applicants at the ongoing 2025/2026 police constable screening exercise to remain vigilant against fraudsters and recruitment racketeers.

To safeguard the integrity of the recruitment, the command has released official channels for reporting any suspicious activity.

The command advised applicants to report any individual or group demanding money or making fraudulent promises to the Police Complaint Response Unit.

The screening exercise kicked off on Monday, March 9, 2026, following a formal reception of the screening team by the Commissioner of Police, Rashid Afegbua.

The team, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Victor Bekep, met with the commissioner at the Police Officers’ Mess on Moore Road, Calabar.

In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, on Tuesday, the commissioner charged the screening officials to maintain the highest standards of integrity.

He urged the team to carry out their assignment with “diligence, professionalism, and transparency.”

Afegbua further assured the officials that the command, in collaboration with the Cross River State government, would provide all the necessary logistical support to ensure a seamless process.

Addressing the candidates, the Team Lead, DCP Victor Bekep, emphasized that the police have a zero-tolerance policy regarding bribery.

He made it clear that the path to enlistment is strictly through individual performance and meeting official criteria.

“The screening process is strictly merit-based,” DCP Bekep stated. “Only candidates who meet the stipulated requirements will proceed to the next stage of the recruitment process.”

DCP Bekep cautioned applicants against falling prey to scammers who promise to influence the outcome of the screening for a fee.

“The exercise is free, transparent, and based solely on qualification and merit,” Bekep stressed, urging candidates to maintain an orderly and disciplined manner throughout the duration of the exercise.
