The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into a video circulating online featuring content creator Martins Otse, popularly known as “Very Dark Man” (VDM), donning police uniforms and accessories.
The police have condemned the use of their official attire without permission, citing it as a violation of criminal law.
In a public statement on its official X social media handle, the Force clarified that the display of police uniforms by VDM in his content was unauthorized and warned that the improper use of police attire, insignia, or any official symbols is a punishable offense.
The statement reads in part, “It is important to remind the public that the unauthorized use of Police uniforms, insignia, or accoutrements constitutes a criminal offense, as stipulated in Section 251 of the Criminal Code Law and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law, and is subject to strict penalties.

“While the Nigeria Police Force recognizes and supports the creativity of young Nigerians in the content creation space, we strongly caution against the misuse of Police uniforms or symbols. Unauthorized use of these items undermines the values and integrity of the Force and will not be tolerated.”
The Force reiterated its commitment to taking action against individuals who misuse official uniforms or insignia for personal gain or entertainment.
As the investigation progresses, the public is reminded to respect the legal boundaries surrounding official symbols and attire, as any misuse can carry severe legal consequences.
