The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt in Guto Village, a border community in Bwari Area Council, following a midnight attack by about 30 armed criminals on Wednesday.
The incident happened at about 1:10 a.m. when the Police received a distress call that the attackers had stormed the community and attempted to break into a targeted residence to abduct a man and his family.
Operatives of the Bwari Division Surveillance Team and the IGP Special Intervention Squad (SIS) responded swiftly, racing to the scene.
Upon sighting the approaching operatives, the gunmen opened fire, prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire. Police sources said two of the attackers were gunned down, while others fled into the surrounding bushes and rocky terrain.
However, the operation came at a grave cost. One Police officer sustained a gunshot wound during the confrontation and was rushed to Bwari General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
