The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has intensified security patrols around churches and border communities as part of measures to protect worshippers and residents across the territory during the ember months.
A statement on Monday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the operation followed the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, to enhance proactive crime prevention and community safety.
Adeh said operatives of the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, in collaboration with personnel of the Department of State Services (DSS), local hunters, and vigilante groups, carried out a special church patrol on November 9 across forested and border communities linking Bwari–Kaduna, Bwari–Niger, and Gwagwalada–Niger States.
She explained that the operation, which lasted from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., was aimed at boosting community confidence, deterring criminal activities, and ensuring that worshippers could conduct religious services without fear of attacks or harassment.
The statement disclosed that during the patrol, church leaders were engaged and reassured of the command’s commitment to their safety.

Also, the police added that the church leaders were sensitized on precautionary measures, such as avoiding late-night religious activities, maintaining communication with security agencies, and promptly reporting suspicious movements or persons.
“The commissioner of police has directed the blocking of identified access routes often exploited by criminal elements as part of intelligence-led preventive measures.
“Strategic security posts within the forest areas remain active and under constant supervision,” Adeh said.
She urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies, adding that safety was a shared responsibility.
For emergencies, residents were advised to contact the command via 08032003913, 08068587311, the CRU on 08107314192, or the Public Relations Officer on 07038979348.
Adeh quoted the commissioner as assuring residents that the FCT remained safe, adding that the police would continue to adopt dynamic, intelligence-driven strategies to ensure a crime-free environment.
