The Adamawa State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its fight against organized crime with the arrest of a seven-member syndicate involved in the theft and illegal sale of tricycles and motorcycles across Yola metropolis.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, the syndicate was busted following a coordinated, intelligence led operation by operatives attached to the State Intelligence Department (SID), leading to the recovery of two stolen tricycles and one motorcycle.

The operation, carried out on June 24, resulted in the arrest of one Mohammed Alhaji, 25, of Hulere Ward, Yola North LGA. During interrogation, Alhaji confessed to being a member of the syndicate and implicated an accomplice, Jafar Babangida, 19, from the same area, who allegedly stole two TVS tricycles from different locations in Yola.

The stolen tricycles were reportedly sold to Ziyau Garba, 38, of Sangere, and Bawuro Ibrahim, 37, of Vinikilang, who in turn sold one of them to another buyer, Sahabi Mohammed, 35, also of Vinikilang in Girei LGA.

Further investigations, according to the command, revealed that Babangida also stole a Jincheng motorcycle, which he dismantled with the help of Lukman Usman, 15, before selling the parts to Auwal Musa, 30, of Nyakore Ward in Yola North.

All seven suspects have been arrested and have voluntarily confessed to their roles in the criminal operation, the statement said.

The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, commended the operatives for their swift and effective action and called on members of the public to support ongoing police efforts by providing timely and actionable information.

Investigations are ongoing, with authorities aiming to recover more stolen property and apprehend additional suspects.
