The Cross River State Police Command says it has discovered eight well dried corpses at a local embalmment hall in Isong Inyang Community along the Calabar–Ikom Highway.
It equally confirmed the arrest of a suspect, one Sunday Ben Reuben, a native of Nsit Ibom in Akwa Ibom State.
In a statement issued on February 13, 2026, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday said the command received credible information at about 11:56 a.m. regarding the presence of corpses at the facility.
“At about 11:56hrs, credible information was received concerning the presence of corpses at a local embalmment hall in Isong Inyang community,” the statement said.
He added that operatives were immediately mobilized to the scene to verify the report.
“Upon getting to the facility, eight well-dried corpses were discovered,” the command statement confirmed.
The statement further disclosed that swift police action led to the arrest of one suspect who is currently in custody
Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspect is a mortician attached to the Enghaut Company Mortuary in Akamkpa Local Government Area.

The police statement further indicated that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the matter and to determine whether any laws have been contravened.
