The Adamawa State Police Command has taken two of its officers into custody after they allegedly fired shots at a civilian vehicle during a stop-and-search operation in Jimeta.

In a statement released on Monday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the command received a report accusing the officers of misconduct, while manning a checkpoint along the River Side area in Jimeta.

Nguroje said initial investigations show that the officers had flagged down a Mercedes 180 for a routine inspection, but the occupants reportedly refused to comply.

During the confrontation that ensued, one of the policemen discharged his firearm and shot at the car’s tyres, a response the command described as excessive and unprofessional.

However, no one was injured in the incident.

The police spokesman noted that the officers involved have since been apprehended and placed under detention.

The statement added that the Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, has directed a full and transparent inquiry into the incident.

The command assured the public that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken once the investigation is concluded.

The police further reiterated their commitment to maintaining professionalism, enforcing discipline, and safeguarding the rights of all residents of Adamawa State.
