Police charge 5 DESTMA officials to court for theft

Five arrested officials of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) in Ughelli North Local Government Area, have been charged to court for alleged conspiracy and stealing.

The suspects, Oghenekioja Samuel, Anakpoha Oghogho, Sibisaba Raymond, Udi Jeremiah, and Erutabor Esharenena, were arraigned on a two -count charge before a Magistrate Court in Ughelli, for allegedly stealing N86, 000 belonging to one Mr. Sylvester Ayonuwe.

It would be recalled that on January 22, 2025, Mr. Ayonuwe, a commercial tricycle rider was arrested and his tricycle impounded, for alleged wrong parking by the DESTMA officials at Otovwodo.

In an attempt to resolve the issue, the tricycle was impounded, and Mr. Ayonuwe was fined N10, 000 and made to pay another N20, 000 for accusing the DESTMA officials who arrested him of stealing his N86, 000.

A source at the Ughelli Area Command, disclosed that the DESTMA officials have been charged for alleged conspiracy and stealing of money belonging the commercial tricycle rider.

The offences, the police source added are punishable under Sections 516 and Section 390 (9) of the Criminal Code of Delta State, 2006.

Efforts to contact the director of DESTMA in Ughelli, were unsuccessful as at the time of this report.
