The Kano State Police Command has assured the public of adequate security deployments to ensure no breakdown of law and order during and after the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations in the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, gave the assurance when he received the Kano State Coalition of Non-Governmental Organizations, led by Dr. Musa Sufi, and members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by the state Chairman, Comrade Ali Bayero in his office.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, in a statement, noted that the groups had raised concerns on the issue of security ahead of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, especially with regard to the durbar festivities where people are envisaging the likelihood of violent clashes.
Kiyawa quoted the groups as having stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence and advised the command to ensure there is no breakdown of law and order.
The state police commissioner acknowledged that the command is aware of certain groups planning to hold parallel celebrations, which may raise tension and lead to violent clashes.

However, the police chief assured that the command in liaison with other security agencies in the state is re-strategising, and weighing various options to ensure that law and order is maintained.

“As we celebrate this joyous occasion, let us remember that peace is paramount. We must prioritize peace above everything else, putting aside our differences and coming together as one people for the progress of the state and the nation at large.

“Together, we can ensure a peaceful and joyous Sallah celebration for all,” the statement noted.
