The Delta State Police command has arrested a woman, identified as Faith Oghenejabor, for staging her own kidnap and defrauding a man of N2million at Ekpan in Uvwie Local Government area of the state.
It was learnt that the suspect, who also posed as ‘Smart Amanda,’ met the man on Facebook.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, who disclosed this while parading the suspect on Thursday, noted that the incident occurred on November 11, 2024.
“The incident began on November 11, 2024, when a man reported to the police that a woman he had met on Facebook, Smart Amanda, informed him she was visiting him in Ekpan.
“However, along the Agbarho Road, he received a call claiming she had been kidnapped, with the alleged kidnappers demanding a ransom of N15 million.

“The following day, Faith Oghenejabor, posing as Amanda’s friend, contacted the man, claiming they had raised most of the ransom but needed an additional N150, 000 to secure Amanda’s release. After Amanda was supposedly freed, Faith continued to solicit money, eventually extorting a total of N1.95 million.
“Suspicious of the situation, the man reported the matter to the police. Operatives led by the divisional police officer of Ekpan, conducted a detailed investigation, which revealed that Faith Oghenejabor and Smart Amanda were the same person.
“The suspect was promptly arrested and is currently in police custody. Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to unravel the full extent of the scheme,” the statement added.
The police reiterated their commitment to protecting citizens and have urged the public to remain vigilant against such fraudulent activities.
