The police in Ogun State have arrested a teenager, identified as Olamide Phillips, for allegedly stabbing his friend, Moses Odeh, to death during a fight on Obalende Street in the Isara area of Abeokuta, the state capital.
The tragic incident occurred around 6:30pm on Sunday, at their parents’ residence in the community.
Confirming the arrest on Tuesday, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, stated that the suspect, and the deceased were childhood friends, as their parents were close.
According to reports, Phillips’ mother had accused her son of stealing ₦5,000 from her bank account, and informed Odeh’s father, Osapa.
While Phillips was being reprimanded by his father, Odeh walked in, leading to a quarrel between the two teenagers.

Despite efforts by their parents to separate them, the argument escalated into a physical fight. Phillips allegedly grabbed an object and stabbed Odeh in the stomach.
“The victim was rushed to Kings Hospital for medical attention but succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Monday, March 3. His body has since been taken to the General Hospital in Isara for an autopsy.
“Following the incident, police operatives from the Isara Division launched a manhunt for Phillips, leading to his arrest in Ipara Remo, a neighboring community where he had been hiding,” she said.
Odutola confirmed that the suspect is in custody, and that the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCID) in Abeokuta, for further investigation
