The Delta State Police Command has arrested a key suspect in connection with the gruesome murder of a commercial motorcyclist, also known as okada rider, in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State.

The victim, identified as Friday Orumgbe, 53, of Idumu Oza, Agbor, was reported missing on October 7, 2025, after he failed to return home the previous day. According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, intelligence-led investigations by operatives attached to Agbor Division led to the arrest of Musa Buhari, 25, of Alihagu Village, Agbor.

The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, had launched a discreet investigation immediately after the report of the missing rider was lodged. Acting on intelligence, operatives apprehended Buhari on October 16 and recovered the victim’s phone, a Tecno T101 handset, from him.

During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and an accomplice, Manu Usman (currently at large), had chartered the victim’s motorcycle under the pretence of being passengers. They allegedly lured him into a bush along the Power Line area near Oki, Agbor, where they attacked him with a hoe, rendering him unconscious before stealing his motorcycle and phone.

Following the confession, police operatives, led by the DPO, visited the crime scene on October 17 at about 8:05 a.m., where they recovered the decomposed body of the victim. The remains were identified by family members and deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy.

SP Edafe said the suspect is currently in custody while efforts are ongoing to track down his accomplice and recover the stolen motorcycle.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation, police operatives in Warri arrested two suspected cultists and armed robbers during a patrol in the Ubeji community on October 19, 2025. The suspects, Christian Agbajor Akpos, 33, and Sophia Thomas, 26, were apprehended inside a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV, where a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, a battle axe, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge were recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, commended the swift actions of officers in both operations, assuring residents that the Command will sustain its intelligence-led policing strategy to curb violent crimes and ensure the safety of lives and property across Delta State.
