Human rights activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, was on Thursday arrested by police officers at the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Sowore, who is also a former presidential candidate and convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, was reportedly picked up shortly after leaving the court where he was billed to appear before Justice Emeka Nwite over what he had earlier described as a “bogus and farcical” charge of alleged forgery of a police wireless message.
It was gathered that the arrest was carried out on the orders of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police.
According to the information, Sowore had been informed at the court that the judge would not be sitting, and as he prepared to leave, a police officer approached him, informing him that he was under arrest on the directive of the FCT Commissioner of Police.
