The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old suspected notorious vandal wanted for multiple cases of property destruction in the state.
Spokesperson of the command, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the arrest in a statement made available to journalists in Uyo, the state capital, on Saturday.
The police said the suspect was apprehended around 9:30 pm on August 18 during an intelligence-led raid carried out by operatives of the command.
The raid followed credible information that led officers to the premises of the suspect, a native of Midim Water Side community.
DSP John explained that the suspect had been on the run after being declared wanted in connection with the vandalism of school structures and private residences.

“Upon arrival, officers sighted the suspect and several other unknown individuals. The suspect was apprehended during the raid, while the others escaped into a nearby creek on sighting the police vehicle,” she stated.
Items recovered from the scene include a small handbag containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, four door handles, a mini flashlight, and several parts of damaged door locks.
The police spokesperson added that the suspect is in custody and that investigations are ongoing.
She urged victims of recent vandalism in the area to come forward and provide identification and statements to aid the prosecution.
The arrest is part of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command’s renewed efforts to combat vandalism and protect public and private infrastructure across the state.
