The suspect, identified as Igenebo John, from Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State, was apprehended on August 24, 2025, at a hotel along the Effurun-Sapele Road by officers of the Ughelli Area Command after a tip-off.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright  who briefed journalists at the Ughelli Area Command, said the suspect confessed that the vehicles were handed over to him by one Ameachi, who claimed they belonged to his late brother.

Investigation, however, revealed that the white Lexus RX350 (Reg. No. RSH 319 CB) was stolen during a violent robbery in Amukpe, Sapele.

He said, “Armed men had invaded the home of one Nathaniel Ugbebe, dispossessed him of valuables, transferred ₦1.9 million from his bank account, and escaped with his car. The black Mercedes Benz GLK350 (Reg. No. ABJ 420 CY) was also traced and recovered.”

Police say efforts are ongoing to track down Ameachi and other members of the gang still at large.

Edafe also said, “On August 25, three suspects, Henry Bernard (35), Justice Ayero (39), and Oho Ogbavwomera, all from Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area, were arrested for robbing a motorcyclist at gunpoint.

A follow-up search led to the residence of one Oluwa Felix in Owawha community, where officers recovered a single-barrel gun, hacksaws, scissors, touchlights, and other items suspected to be used for criminal activities.

“In another breakthrough on August 29, operatives stormed a chemist shop opposite Afisere Town Hall, arresting a notorious drug dealer, 52-year-old Egbule Isioma, alongside three female apprentices.

A raid on her residence yielded a large cache of illicit substances, including codeine, tramadol capsules, Canadian liquid cannabis, swinol, and other narcotics.

The police described her as a major supplier of hard drugs in Ughelli and surrounding communities.

SP Bright quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, as reaffirming the command’s resolve to rid Delta communities of armed robbers, drug dealers, and other criminal elements.
