The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a 22-year-old suspected online scammer, Malik Opeyemi, for allegedly impersonating women on social media to deceive and extort unsuspecting men.
The arrest was carried out by detectives from the Area F Command following a detailed investigation that traced the suspect to Oyo State.
According to a police statement issued by Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, the suspect lured his victims into making nude video calls, which he secretly recorded and later used to blackmail them.
“Since January 2025, the suspect is reported to have extorted over ₦4 million from more than 30 victims, demanding a so-called “subscription fee” of ₦25,000 for access to explicit content.
“The arrest was made on May 16, 2025, after a victim lodged a formal complaint. The police tracked the suspect across state lines, ultimately apprehending him in Oyo and transferring him back to Lagos for further investigation.
