The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a prime suspect in the murder of 65-year-old Mrs. Jane Okoye, who was killed in her residence in the Orile Iganmu area of Lagos on April 2, 2025.
The suspect, identified as Abubakar Iliyasu, was apprehended in Ankpa, Kogi State, and the stolen Toyota Sienna linked to the crime was successfully recovered.
According to a statement by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the suspect allegedly broke into the victim’s home, attacked her, and fled with her Toyota Sienna and other personal belongings.
The victim was discovered unconscious and later pronounced dead at a medical facility.

The case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, where homicide detectives launched a discreet but intensive investigation.
“Using advanced intelligence and surveillance techniques, the team traced Iliyasu to Kogi State and effected his arrest. The stolen Toyota Sienna was recovered in good condition and is now in police custody as evidence.
“The suspect is currently detained at the SCID, where he is assisting police with the ongoing investigation.
“Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Olohundare Jimoh, assured residents that justice will be served and reiterated the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the state,” the statement added.
