Operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team in Delta State have arrested some suspected kidnappers responsible for kidnappings in Ughelli, Agbarho, and other parts of the state.
Arms and ammunition were also recovered during the operation.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that the suspects were arrested in Rivers State to evade capture.
He said “on March 26, 2025, police operatives, led by ASP Julius Robinson, tracked and arrested a suspected kidnapper, Chedeye Mohammed, in Rivers State.
“Upon interrogation, the suspect led security operatives to a bush near a trailer park where weapons were concealed. One AK-47 rifle loaded with 13 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition was recovered.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that Mohammed and his gang were responsible for kidnappings in Ughelli, Agbarho, and other parts of Delta State, before relocating to Rivers State to evade capture. Efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members are ongoing.

“Acting on credible intelligence, the CP Special Assignment Team conducted a sting operation in Anyangba Town, Kogi State, leading to the arrest of three suspects: Zakari Mohammed, from Olugbujo community, Ibrahim Mumuni, from Anyangba Town, and Mohammed Hamisu, from Anyangba Town, all in Dekina Local Government Area.
“A search of their residences led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and an automatic pump-action gun.
“Further investigation resulted in the arrest of another suspect, Samaila Mohammed, from Udo community, where a Baretta pistol loaded with three rounds of live ammunition and cartridges was seized. The suspects are currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing.
“In another successful operation, on March 25, 2025, the CP-SAT team apprehended Emu Lucky, a resident of Igbide community in Isoko South Local Government Area.
“Acting on intelligence, officers searched his premises in Olomoro community and recovered 82 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.
“Investigations revealed that Lucky was supplying ammunition to suspected kidnappers through Mohammed Bello, a known middleman who is already in police custody. The police are continuing efforts to dismantle the illegal arms supply network.
“The Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, assured residents of Delta State that security operations would be intensified to ensure safety. He reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the mandate of the inspector general of police in making the state crime-free.”
