The Kano State Police Command has arrested a driver attached to the Government House for allegedly stealing a white Toyota Hilux belonging to the Governor’s Advance Team.
Police spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest in a statement released on Wednesday. He said the vehicle was reported missing from the Government House on November 11, prompting the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Bakori, to order the immediate lockdown of all entry and exit routes in the state to prevent its escape.
Kiyawa disclosed that after a sustained, intelligence-driven operation, officers arrested one Ya’u Inuwa, a 50-year-old Government House driver, in connection with the theft. The stolen Hilux was later traced and recovered at Unguwa Uku, Yan Awaki Quarters, within the Kano metropolis.

Preliminary investigation, according to the police, revealed that Inuwa conspired with two accomplices who are currently at large. Security operatives have since launched a manhunt to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover any other stolen property linked to the case.
The police commended officials of the Kano State Government House for their swift cooperation, saying their prompt report made the recovery possible. Kiyawa assured residents that the Command remains committed to upholding law and order, maintaining that justice will be served as investigations continue.
The dramatic theft of a state-owned vehicle from within the Government House has stirred public outrage and renewed concerns over insider involvement in official asset thefts. Security analysts say the case underscores the urgent need for tighter screening and monitoring of government staff handling sensitive duties.
