Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested an ex-convict, identified as Onamade Kayode, for suspected cultism and armed robbery, recovering a locally made firearm he allegedly hid inside a toilet pipe.
A statement issued on Tuesday by the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the arrest was made by officers attached to the Ijede Police Division following a distress complaint from residents of Sabon Kasuwa, Abule Eko, on August 18, 2025.
He said residents had raised an alarm after the suspect was seen openly brandishing a locally fabricated gun and issuing threats to members of the public.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, police operatives traced Kayode to an uncompleted building, where he was apprehended.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Kayode, who was released from prison in 2022 after serving a sentence for cultism-related offences, had allegedly resumed active membership in a notorious cult group.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to possessing a firearm and subsequently led police operatives to a toilet pipe inside the uncompleted building, where the hidden gun was recovered.
Police authorities confirmed that Kayode is currently cooperating with investigators to expose other members of his cult group and aid in the recovery of additional weapons.
He will face prosecution once investigations are concluded.
