The Delta State Police Command has arrested several suspected cultists, armed robbers, and gun-runners in a series of sting operations carried out by the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) across different parts of the state.

The operatives also recovered firearms, including two pump-action guns, a Beretta pistol, a cut-to-size gun, and multiple cartridges.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the arrests were made following intelligence reports on criminal activities linked to cultism, arms trafficking, and kidnapping.

The statement “On February 3, 2025, police operatives tracked and arrested Stephen Oma Odu (25), a suspected cultist and gunrunner in Sapele town. His confession led to the arrest of another suspect, Abel Festus aka “Tompolo” (42), in Oghara town. A search of Festus’ apartment resulted in the recovery of two pump-action guns and 24 live cartridges.

“Two additional suspected cultists, Godspower Moses aka “Power” of Kokori community and Oloriode Owebe (24) of Oghareki community, were also arrested during the operation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of the Vikings Confraternity.

“In another operation on March 9, 2025, the police arrested a couple, Joshua Bogbon Godwell and his wife, Uche Joshua, in Okpe LGA, for allegedly running an arms trafficking syndicate. A fabricated Beretta pistol with a single live round was recovered from their residence.

“The wife, Uche Joshua, confessed to acting as a dispatcher, delivering firearms to clients in Warri and Sapele. Further investigations led to the arrest of their associate, Junior Moses Ogedegbe (30), from Useifurun community in Ughelli South LGA.

“The CP-SAT operatives also cracked down on suspected kidnappers and internet fraudsters in Jesse and Mosogar towns on March 9, 2025. A notorious suspect, Festus Oboyo (26) of Igbopa community, was arrested with a locally made cut-to-size gun and a live cartridge.

“During a search of his apartment, police found an “FBI impersonation” document allegedly used for internet fraud. His suspected accomplices, Favor Omowo aka “Voltage” (29) and Gift Omowo (26), both from Jesse community, were also arrested. Efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing gang members.”

Senator Ibrahim Lamido dumps APC, blames insecurity, economic hardship By Paul Joseph A serving senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District, Senator Ibrahim Lamido, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress, citing worsening insecurity and economic hardship in his constituency. The lawmaker announced his decision on his official X platform, stating that his resignation takes immediate effect. He explained that the move followed what he described as the party’s inability to adequately protect lives and support livelihoods across Sokoto East. Lamido raised serious concerns over the surge in bandit attacks in the region, noting that several communities have been overrun, with villages destroyed, residents displaced, and local economies severely disrupted. He said repeated appeals for urgent government intervention had failed to produce meaningful results. The senator stressed that his decision was not driven by political ambition but by the need to stand with his constituents during a period of deep crisis. He added that consultations with community leaders and political associates shaped his final decision to exit the ruling party. While he did not immediately announce his next political destination, Lamido hinted that he would align with a platform that prioritises security, grassroots development, and the welfare of citizens. He also called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts against banditry, warning that continued inaction could worsen the humanitarian situation across northern Nigeria. The development adds to growing political shifts ahead of the 2027 general elections, as security concerns and economic pressures continue to influence alignments within Nigeria’s political landscape.
